Eagle-eyed Apple users will no doubt notice that OSX Lion is nowhere to be seen – it was thought it would launch last week, but nothing. Well there are rumours that are suggesting that OSX Lion could go on sale imminently, possibly tomorrow.
Source at Mac Rumours have said that Apple has sent copies of the finished OS to retail stores for training and demo purposes – leading many to believe that the completely new OS is imminent – some suggesting that the release date could be as early as tomorrow.
For the first time ever Mac users will not have to make the holy pilgrimage to one of Apple’s retail stores to get their hands on the latest OS – as Lion will only be available as a download from the recently release App Store.
Apple sent gold master versions of the software to developers on July 1st, and has promised a July launch for some time, but the exact date has never been formally announced.
Keep an eye out for the traditional ‘back soon’ sticky on the Apple web site as if the rumour is to be believed should be on by around 4pm.
Lion is expected to converge all the best bits of Apple’s iOS mobile operating system with the existing Snow Leopard OSX, so you can expect lots of touch gestures and simplified interfaces.
The 4GB download will cost £21, won’t come in a box, and will have to be paired with either a Magic Trackpad or Magic Mouse if you want to play with all of its new bells and whistles.
If doesn’t come out tomorrow, you can just sign up to the email alert system and it will email you when you can download Lion OS X.
